Event Offerings

Hosts may choose to organize their event as a single session, an all-day series, or a two-day series comprising multiple workshops and activities. All classes and offerings can be tailored to the unique needs of the host organization and their community.

Educational Workshops

Hannah Shaw offers a number of public educational workshops on the subject of kitten care, community cats, and feline welfare. These workshops provide fun, visual, thorough and accessible training for community members of all experience levels—providing actionable steps to improve the lives of kittens. Workshops are generally 90-120 minutes in length, with or without Q&A.

The Saving Kittens workshop teaches community members of all levels about kitten welfare and foster care. Attendees gain an understanding of the issues impacting kittens, learn the fundamentals of caring for kittens 0-8 weeks of age, and become empowered to play a role in saving their lives. This class includes information on kitten development, assessing health, monitoring stool and urine, bottle feeding, kitten-led weaning, behavior and socialization, and more. Depending on your goals and schedule, the Saving Kittens workshop can be offered as a single 90-120 minute workshop, or be lengthened into a deeper two-part series: one 90 minute class focused on kitten issues and advocacy, and one 90-120 minute class focused on hands-on kitten care.

The Community Cats workshop teaches community members of all levels about the presence of kittens and cats outdoors, and how to help them through trap-neuter-return. This workshop establishes the deep connection between kittens in shelters and community cats—then dives into what to do if you find a kitten, who community cats are and how to help them, and a step-by-step guide to trapping, colony care, and advocacy.

Custom workshops can be created to meet specific needs, such as a more focused course on a specific subject like kitten behavior, kitten health, weaning, grief and loss, compassion resilience, or advocacy.

Professional and Advanced Trainings

Professional Trainings are available for shelter staff and community rescue leaders. These are generally 120 minute sessions covering best practices for kitten-focused programs including kitten diversion, foster programs, on-site care of kittens, and more. Professional Trainings are ideal for shelter teams and their transfer organizations, bringing together community partners to align on kitten welfare practices. Consider adding this before a community event!

Advanced Neonate Trainings are closed sessions available for small groups of experienced neonatal kitten caregivers. These are generally 120-180 minute interactive classes for approved foster parents who are ready to advance their skillsets. Advanced trainings cover the care of the most fragile neonates, diving deep into the disease processes that lead to the decline of kitten health, and providing intensive training on supportive care skills like subcutaneous fluids and tube feeding for neonates. Attendees will take notes, participate in discussions, ask questions, answer pop quizzes, and find the confidence to save the most vulnerable kittens.

Conferences and Conventions

Hannah Shaw is a regular speaker at industry conferences and cat conventions, offering talks which span from fun and entertaining to in-depth and instructional, with each event tailored to the needs of the host. Shaw has lectured at dozens of national and international conventions such as EXPO, VMX, Best Friends National Conference, Animal Rights National Conference, Cat Camp, CatCon, Meow Festival, and more.

University and Corporate Trainings

In addition to her work with shelters and conventions, Hannah Shaw has led workshops for veterinary student groups at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, and Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as a number of veterinary technician student groups.
